CrunchTime Recycling Collection Fundraiser

This is one of the simplest fundraisers to do because once you order, and then either set up or distribute the collection materials, your work is essentially done. Then it’s 100% profit for your group, because you don’t pay for anything. Just sit back and wait for your monthly commission check to arrive.

There are several ways to go about doing your Recycling Collection Fundraiser. If you have an area where there is a lot of foot traffic, preferably with some sort of human presence, such as a school foyer, town library, municipal building, Mom & Pop Convenience Store, etc. you might want to set up a table top display box where people can deposit their old cell phones or spent inkjet or laser jet cartridges in the appropriate box. One type of box can be used for both the cell phones and the inkjet cartridges; a different style box is needed for the laser jet cartridges.

If it’s just cell phones and/or inkjet cartridges (laser jet cartridges are too large for this method), you might want to consider a table top display of tear-off, bar-coded, postage-paid envelopes that supporters can later place their cell phone or inkjet cartridge in and drop in a post office box. This method might be preferable to collection boxes in a place where there’s little oversight.

If you have already collected a sizeable amount of phones and/or cartridges, and have them in some sort of sturdy box, ready to ship, then a bar-coded, postage-paid mailing label might work best for you. Using a box obtained from a supermarket or office supply store is another way to use one of the three Rs: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. It is reusing an old corrugated box for another use.

CrunchTime didn’t invent the recycling collection fundraiser -- it started while we only offered the Newman's Own Organics chocolate --  but we applaud the novelty of the program as a way to keep literally 100s of tons of material, some of it highly toxic, out of our already overburdened landfills, and reuse or recycle the collected materials into new end products.

It has been estimated that
    • Less than 50% of all laser cartridges are recycled
    • A remanufactured cartridge saves 3 quarts of oil
    • Each abandoned cartridge adds 2.5 pounds of plastic to the waste stream
    • It takes over 1,000 years for plastic to break down in the environment; buried in a landfill, devoid of air, it will never break down
    • There are some 400 million cartridges thrown out every year.
    • If the estimated 130 million cell phones discarded each year in the US were recycled, the phones would yield about 202,000 ounces of gold, keeping approximately 65,000 tons of toxic waste from landfills and incinerators.(1)

Cell Phones

CrunchTime
pays $1.00 for every cell phone on our list. Please note that our list changes monthly. Please click here to view the most current list of phones we accept.

Scrap phones are phones not on our list or are broken. Even though it costs more money, we’ll recycle scrap phones, accessories, and their hazardous components in accordance with State and Federal regulations. The emphasis is on recycling. The cell phone recycling program was established to provide a means for schools, non-profit organizations, municipalities, businesses, even individuals, to raise money while protecting the environment from the hazardous materials found in cell phones

Because CrunchTime openly promotes the recycling of any cell phones, we reserve the right to limit the number of cell phones you send us without prior authorization. If you have more than 500 cell phones and wish CrunchTime to recycle them, please call us at (508) 315-3456 to obtain authorization first.

As mentioned in paragraphs two and three above (maybe a link), there are several ways to go about collecting and then shipping the phones or cartridges back to us. If you haven’t read those two paragraphs, we suggest you do as they may answer a lot of questions for you.

Inkjet and Laser Jet Cartridges

If you currently use or have ever used an inkjet printer as your main means of printing documents, you know how quickly you go through cartridges. Virtually any group could and should participate in this program. If you let it run for a few months—time enough for each of your supporters to go through at least one cartridge—no doubt you’ll make a sizeable return. Laser Jet Cartridges have a much longer operational life, but they, too, eventually run out of toner, making them a viable commodity to recycle.

CrunchTime will pay up to $4.00 for Inkjet and Laser Jet Cartridges. Due to supply and demand, the prices for some cartridges have decreased. Conversely, the number of cartridges that qualify for the program has increased. For the most recent list of Inkjet and/or Laser Jet Cartridges, please email us at: CustomerSatisfaction@CrunchTime.org  or give us a call at 1-877-2-CRUNCH.

What supplies are best for your needs? If you plan to run this fundraiser for an extended period of time, and you have a well-traveled, but safe place where you can set up one or more displays, we suggest a display of bar-coded, postage paid envelopes and/or a colorful display box that people can deposit their spent cartridges in.
